Tips
& Tricks for keeping a Christmas Tree Fresh
- Buy
your tree early. This allows
you to control how the tree is cared for. A sunny, windy tree lot is not the
best place for your tree. Also,
buying the tree early ensures a better selection.
- Store
your tree in a unheated garage, shed or basement or anywhere out of the
sun and wind.
- Put
the tree in water, if possible. Stand
the tree in a bucket of water right after we give it a fresh cut.
It is okay if the water freezes as long as you can get it out of the
bucket the day you want to set up the tree inside.
Think ahead!
- Re-cut
the tree, if possible. Just
like fresh flowers, it is best to cut a slice off the bottom as often as
possible (daily is not required, but best).
Most people cut it right before it goes in the stand.
- Use
tree preservative. Kennedy’s
supplies enough tree preservative for the first few watering.
Tree preservative is specially formulated to keep the tree drinking
water. We do not recommend
homemade remedies. We sell tree
preservative at the front counter if you need more.
- Check
the water often – very important! – if the bottom of the tree dries
out for very long it will stop taking up water.
Nobody is going to take the tree down after it is decorated to give
it a fresh cut, so check it often, especially in the beginning.
Add tree preservative in room temperature water for best results.
Use a tree stand with a large water holding capacity or buy a tree
watering system at Kennedy’s.
- Keep
the room temperature down, if possible. The longer the trees stays in a
hot, dry room the quicker it will dry out.
