Kennedy’s has 7 greenhouses, four of which are heated and open year round. We understand Kennedy’s is one of few true garden centers in the region to have open greenhouses open during even the coldest winter months. A trip throughKennedy’s in winter is considered by many a great tropical mini-get-away. We welcome many visitors. In fact, it is not uncommon to see local art classes taking setting up shop to take advantage of the tropical sights and winter rays. The Greenhouses are even more impressive when they are literally stocked to the rafters with hanging baskets and others assorted color plants in the spring and summer seasons. Come see for yourself.
Greenhouse # 1 is home to many of our smaller plants that can be dressed up to bring to friend or family member. You may choose from a nice selection of plants to add color to a kitchen counter or sunny window sill or even a darker book shelf. Orchids, Kalanchoe, African Violets, Rex Begonias, Ferns, Dracena and Peace Lilies, are just a small sample of what can be discovered in Greenhouse #1. Our creative Green Team members put together combinations of these items to make a “Plant Basket”, which makes a terrific, long lasting “living” gift.
Greenhouse #2 is typically where you find some of our more exotic plants and birds too! We house unusual annuals and topiaries during the busy seasons and assorted foliage plants and other interesting finds in the off peak seasons. It is also the home of Martythe Macaw and Keoke our African Grey Parrot.
Greenhouse #3 is our hottest, sunniest house, making it ideal for our cactus and succulents all year. Our geraniums add an impressive splash of color in spring, assuming we can keep these hardy performers in stock!
Greenhouse #4 is typically dedicated to Proven Winner annuals. We stock one of the best selection of reliable and colorful garden performing plants. Our buyers do a great job of keeping this greenhouse full land in spring we get multiple shipments of Proven Winners each week because of their popularity. It also allows us to keep the plants extra fresh. In winter we use this space for creating Holiday wreaths and Filler-uppers. We also host several events and lectures in GH #4.
Greenhouses 5, 6 & 7 are the Cold Frames. In winter, the sun, otherwise know as the Greenhouse Effect, keeps our overwintering plants just warm enough to survive a New England Winter in a pot. In spring and summer, they serve storage and growing space for sold and back stock plants.
See you in the warm & sunny greenhouses!
